Destiny

Destiny can be found most often in the fantasy and horror genres here at Pan, when she is not filling the reference library with fabulous tidbits of information. She very kindly agreed to answer these questions for us.

Turtle Island

Two continents stretch out from the arctic circle down towards Antarctica. Filled with any concievable climate, from alpine to tropical and everything inbetween. In the novel of Turtle Island, this land is untouched by the European Nation, populated only by the tribes of what would latter be known as the first nations.
From the Aztecan Valley of Tenochtitlan to the land of the midnight sun, this novel has it all. Remember through words the clear, clean bodies of water, the sprawling forests and snowy deserts. Errect monuments such as Totem poles and great pyramids that would awe the world for centuries to come. Explore the traditions, the cultures and the largely untouched lands of Turtal Island.

Arabian Nights

Imagine the 1001 Arabian Nights going beyond that of the most well known stories, or perhaps extending beyond the original 1001 stories and you will have the Arabian Nights Novel. Inspired by the mini series Arabian Nights, Ahammed and our resident Djinn set about the task of building a world beyond that of the popular legend of Scheherazade. Opening up an entire world where djinnis exist and the world can be explored by taking a journey upon a magic carpet. Surrounded by a desert filled with nomadic Bedouin tribes whose laws are strict and brutal at times, the city of Myrrh finds itself at the heart of this story, rich in both rare treasure and treachery. Intrigue and dissent seem to whisper upon the winds of this glorious city, as it is ruled by tyranny and its citizens ever in the shadow of the evil Emir. Harems are the home to women who despite their roles as obedient concubines are ever entwined in some scheme which may make or break the men who they serve. Slave girls are sold to the highest bidder, or stolen from the auction block itself and choose to fight or submit to the masters who claim them. Arabian Nights is a richly diverse novel, imbedded with a wide variety of writing styles and characters, with stories equally as rich. You’ll find adventure, romance, horror and even humor all mingling together to create a world in which a writer may be free to tell a tale alone, or join into the many stories developing within the City of Myrrh and Desert Sands threads. However, the biggest benefit of being an member would have to be the experience you get from working with the other amazingly talented writers who are all unique in their own way.
As already mentioned, the writers over at Arabian Nights have truly amazing talent. We took the time to ask some of our older members a few questions about the novel. These people have been with the novel from the beginning, through thick and thin, and we have always appreciated their dedicated support.
We started out with a young woman by the name of Zaara, whose personality and unique role in Arabian Nights has brought joy to the novel boards ever since day 1. “She started out to be just a simple pickpocket” she says, “but one with a very special talent.....that of healing, and simple spells.” Sure enough, Zaara appears as a woman with very unique powers, and has used her magic to her advantage a few times in the novel! So what inspired her to join and how did she come across Arabian Nights? “It seems to me that I was searching for a fantasy type novel to become involved with.....and the title caught my eye” she began. “After reading some of the work and seeing the possibilities, I could not help but ask to become a part of this intriguing novel.” Today, Zaara is busy traveling through the desert with her good friend, Ahammed (an NPC, as sadly the man who wrote his role left the novel a short while ago.) However, we are certain that Zaara will continue to pleasure the novel boards with her unique storyline and talented posts!
Next, we move to a truly amazing couple at Arabian Nights: Navid and Shaya. It’s true that when they first began to post, everybody was slightly surprised. Their storyline is one that we can honestly say can’t be seen at many other pan novels, and that is their gay theme. Yes, some may shun the idea at first glance, but never have we come across a couple who fit the roles so perfectly. “The intention was never simply to write 'a gay story'“. Shaya commented. “I would like to think it's an adventure-driven story in which the two protagonists just happen to be both male - alienation and prejudice are pretty universal themes, after all. So far, I'm thrilled with the way our story has developed.” So what persuaded him to join? “The day it was created, I saw it announced on the Dailies and headed off to take a look straight away. I've got exotic tastes and love a good blend of fantasy and realism- although I wasn't familiar with series it was based on, the idea of an Arabian Nights novel really appealed. The sort of character who would fit into the novel had been hovering at the back of my mind for a while anyway, so it didn't take much to get me hitting the "Create a Character for Arabian Nights" link!”
However, Shaya also told us that the storyline simply wouldn’t be the same without his dedicated writing partner, Navid, and its true that their storyline is one that definitely takes teamwork. From the beginning, it was certainly a partner storyline, on that both of them can agree. “Shaya and I were talking about the novel one day and the idea for our story grew out of that,” he told us. “Once we had an idea, it was only a matter of putting it in motion.” Navid said he also had his eyes on the novel from the beginning, because he was always intrigued by the theme. Navid and Shaya are truly two of the most talented writers at Pan Historia, and their writing will never cease to entertain the rest of us.
Another thing that is truly unique about Arabian Nights is what makes it so different from other novels. “I am thrilled to say that Arabian Nights has an excellent troupe of writers and I feel privileged to be among them,” comments Navid. It’s certainly true that the one thing that makes this novel so successful is the writers that inhabit the pages. “what makes Arabian Nights special is the quality of the writers and the storylines they writer,” adds Shaya. None of us can argue with that!
Arabian Nights is truly a novel that all of the writers can say they are proud to be a member of. As for the MoBs, we all wake up every morning just proud to be a part of the unique, talented novel that is Arabian Nights. Being involved with such a novel is a truly wonderful experience, and we grow prouder of it every single day. We hope that you will consider stopping by and checking us out, who knows, maybe you’ll be the next one to click the ‘create a character’ button!
